A Crossroads of Time is the second work in Eliran Bar-On's Tel Aviv Then and Now series. Where the previous painting looked at a residential street, here we stand in the beating, bustling heart of the city — the meeting of Allenby and Nachalat Binyamin, before the architectural icon of Beit Polishook. The painting is a journey through time on a single canvas: rather than cutting reality in a straight line, it lets past and present mingle. On one side is the city of old, in greys, black and white, with vintage cars and dim figures that look like ghosts of another age. On the other is today's Tel Aviv, sun-drenched, with a green and powerful palm tree, blue skies and the warm colour of the renovated boutique hotel. The choice to split the building itself — half grey, half colour — is a statement about memory: the rounded Bauhaus walls remember everything, the soot of the 1950s and the glossy renovation of the 2000s. The grey part is nostalgia, quiet, the European elegance we brought here, the roots on which everything was built; the colourful part is the here and now, the eruption of Israeli life. For the artist this series is a treatment of identity, an attempt to make peace between the times, showing that black-and-white and colour are not enemies but complements — you cannot understand the colourful Tel Aviv of today without knowing the strong grey skeleton it stands on.

זוהי היצירה השנייה בסדרת "תל אביב אז והיום". אם בציור הקודם הבטנו על רחוב מגורים, כאן אנחנו עומדים בלב הפועם והסואן של העיר – המפגש של אלנבי ונחלת בנימין, מול האייקון הארכיטקטוני "בית פולישוק". הציור הזה הוא מסע בזמן על קנבס אחד. הוא לא חוצה את המציאות בקו ישר, אלא נותן לעבר ולהווה להתערבב זה בזה. מצד אחד – העיר של פעם, בגווני אפור, שחור ולבן (Grayscale), עם המכוניות הישנות והדמויות המעומעמות שנראות כמו רוחות של תקופה אחרת. מצד שני – תל אביב של היום, שטופת שמש, עם הדקל הירוק והעוצמתי, השמיים הכחולים והצבעוניות החמה של מלון הבוטיק המשופץ. הפיצול שבונה את השלם הבחירה לחצות את הבניין עצמו – חציו אפור וחציו צבעוני – היא אמירה על הזיכרון. הקירות המעוגלים של הבאוהאוס זוכרים את הכל. הם ספגו את הפיח של שנות ה-50 ואת השיפוץ הנוצץ של שנות ה-2000. החלק האפור: הוא הנוסטלגיה. הוא השקט, הוא האלגנטיות האירופאית שהבאנו לכאן. הוא מייצג את השורשים, את הבסיס שעליו הכל נבנה. החלק הצבעוני: הוא הכאן ועכשיו. הוא הישראליות המתפרצת. עץ הדקל הגדול בצד ימין הוא הניגוד המוחלט לבטון – הוא הטבע הפראי שצומח בתוך העיר. הצבע הכתום-אפרסק של הבניין המשופץ זורח מול השמיים הכחולים. דיאלוג בין דורות עבורי, סדרת הציורים הזו היא טיפול בזהות. אנחנו חיים במדינה שנעה כל הזמן בין עבר מפואר (וכואב) לבין הווה אינטנסיבי. הציור הזה מנסה לעשות שלום בין הזמנים. הוא מראה שהשחור-לבן והצבע הם לא אויבים; הם משלימים. אי אפשר להבין את תל אביב הצבעונית של היום, בלי להכיר את השלד האפור והחזק שעליו היא עומדת. זו יצירה שמכניסה לבית לא רק יופי אורבני, אלא גם עומק היסטורי ותחושה של המשכיות.
